Arabian Fuzz! A brand new international project emerging out of Los Angeles, AL-QASAR is a tribute to 1970s Middle-Eastern psychedelic pop. By merging an old school garage rock sound with traditional instruments of the Arab world, AL-QASAR delivers loud retro grooves reminiscent of Turkish, Iranian, Lebanese, Syrian, and North African influences. AL-QASAR’s Arabic lyrics, written by Jordanian ethno-musicologist Fareed Al-Madain, speak of power, chaos, addiction, but also of liberty, dreams and passion.
AL-QASAR has roots on four different continents: on stage, French-American producer and band leader Thomas Bellier is joined by Algerian oud hero Mehdi Haddab (Speed Caravan, Ekova, Africa Express), Moroccan vocalist Simo Bouamar (Natacha Atlas), and darbuka player Amar Chaoui of Grammy-winning Malian Touareg band, Tinariwen. The rhythm section comprises of Paris-based bassist Guillaume Theoden (Blaak Heat) and drummer Paul Void (Stamp). More than a timid fusion between East and West, AL-QASAR is the culmination of multiple musical traditions, the first 6-piece Arabian psychedelic hard rock band!
